'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the dramatic final moments of Swansea's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. That match ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a fan's glasses after the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative shot from 25 yards, and Cameron Burgess immediately slammed home the rebound before racing off toward the home end to mark the goal, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result capped an extraordinary turnaround given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. Amid the euphoria, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a fourth-round game at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right flank after they changed formation. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the City players who paid tribute to the way his former team approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are exceptional but even the basics and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It seems as if they always find their target and they know how to manage and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then without warning they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even noticing. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It takes a tough attitude and concentration just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at his loan club from United. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into men's football. I think many athletes would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that maturation for his team and nation, shining for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the last several matches, including home and away games against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a killer pass.

Early Days

This marks a remarkable path for the kid from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who used to see his father, his father, also a central player, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's only game for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was sealed owing to the weather of freezing cold. "This represented a extended travel and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I understood I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it reached a stage where I thought I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at late afternoon: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a minibus driven by academy staff, the drivers, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to spend time with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and on the road. His teammate is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with supporters on London's Central line after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
